Corsham make Swindon earn Victory!

Posted by Corsham Webmaster on 15 June 2019

This week the weather held out and the term "Summer League" actually rang true. With the lessons learned from the 8-0 loss and the rain from the previous week, the men in maroon looked to improve on their current Summer League standings.

Starting in usual Corsham fashion it took 10-15 minutes to get into the game, allowing a flurry of Swindon chances, most of which were thwarted. Until a well drilled piece of play split the defence and left Simon Candlin on his own to take on 2-3 Swindon attackers. This acted as a wake up call for Corsham who then spurned a few attacks of their own, sending Joe McAllister, Mike Moyes and Zak Thomas into somewhat of an attacking frenzy. Eventually the goal came after some great communication the three played it round each other and Zak Thomas slotted home.

The heat this week would prove to be the downfall of the men. Fatigue set in early and the Corsham men started to lose concentration allowing a couple more goals before the half time whistle.

The second half however would bring out some of the best hockey Corsham had seen in recent months. Cool calm and collected on the ball, making smarter decisions. This half saw Tim Waldron (if you're Tim's physio, I meant someone else) make some cutting runs in support with Rich and Jake Trask to spearhead through the Swindon formation. Although coming close, Corsham failed to materialise anything from these chances. Having not had any short corner practisein the first half, Corsham saw fit to conceed around 5 short corners, NONE of which were converted. Excellent wing play from Rich De Salis and Jacob Wells continued to threaten the Swindon defence but could not break through. The men in Maroon only conceeded one goal in the 2nd half, notably down to Simon between the sticks and Jon Hooker commanding his defence. The player of the game had to go to Kai Isgrove though, who gave everything he had for the full 70 minutes.

A great result against a very strong Swindon side that Corsham should be happy with.

Final Score: 3-1
